International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Longfellow Middle School is now an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) World School. With their unique academic rigor and strong emphasis on students' personal development, International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed in and outside of the classroom. The curriculum framework serves to prepare students seeking enrollment into the International Baccalaureate Programme at Thomas Jefferson High School.

IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.

*Only schools authorized by the International Baccalaureate can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP) or the IB Career-related Certificate (IBCC).

At Longfellow Middle School, our students take eight classes over two days through a block schedule.  All students take four core classes: Math, Language and Literature (English Language Arts), Science, and Individuals and Societies (Social Studies).  All students also take a Physical Education class, a Language Acquisition class, a Design class, and an Arts class.  Students in each grade level have several options available to meet the requirements for their Physical Education, Language Acquisition, Design and Arts classes.  These options are listed on the chart below.
