Yvonne Marie Hernández
Yvonne Marie Hernández is the proud principal of Lowell Middle School in SAISD. She has been in the field of education since 1999. In her 23 years in public school education, she served as a bilingual educator, instructional technologist, instructional facilitator, campus testing coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. In 2015, The Texas Association of School Administrators awarded her The Johnny L. Veselka Award for outstanding achievement as a doctoral student pursuing a career in educational leadership with a focus on school improvement. This experience led to an opportunity for her to represent as a Delegate at the 2015 Annual Conference sponsored by the British Educational Leadership, Management & Administration Society (BELMAS) in London, England. She was selected to be part of a panel representing American School Principals. In 2017 she was selected as Texas State University’s Rising Star for implementing her research as a practitioner when she turned around her first campus in the first year and earned three distinctions as recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
In the summer of 2022, she will represent SAISD at the Equity-Centered Pipeline Initiative Compendium. Ms. Hernández brings a well-versed background in classroom instruction, data analysis, professional staff development, effective classroom management practices, modeling effective teaching strategies, building teams, and overall campus leadership. She is known for being a high-energy team player, building systems and structures, and campus turnaround. Ms. Hernández strongly believes in creating a positive learning environment for students and teachers to foster life-long learning. She has a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Spanish from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in technology from Houston Baptist University. She is in her last year of completing her Ph.D. in School Improvement with superintendent certification from Texas State University.
