Greetings Rodriguez Community!
I am pleased to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. Our faculty has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our students and are excited to share all the new and exciting advancements on our campus with them.
As you recall, last year we were preparing our implementation plan for the Texas Title I Priority Schools Grant that was funded for Rodriguez Elementary. This five-million-dollar grant will put over $43 million dollars of state-of-the-art technology in the hands of our students and our teachers this year. Over the summer, technologists have been upgrading all our classrooms with interactive SmartBoards that will serve as focal points of student learning this school year. Additionally, those monies also ensured that our students will each have one-to-one access to new Ipads in their classrooms.
In addition to the technology enhancements, our campus received all new student furniture that allows teachers to arrange, group and re-arrange their classrooms to best suit the type of lessons that are occurring; whole group, small group, paired learning and individual learning. The furniture is colorful, modern and very student-oriented. Our inside school building was also painted this summer to complete our transformation.
This year the grant affords us to have additional content experts on our campus that will be on site to assist our teachers in providing the best possible education for our students. Their main role will be to support and build teaching capacity.
You will also notice our partnership with Our Lady of the Lake University. Through our grant and this partnership, you will see university teacher apprentices working alongside our Master Teachers in our Accelerated Classrooms, family counseling supports and speech supports for our youngsters.
We will also be partnering with Communities in Schools, in an effort to provide support for our Rodriguez Families in need of social support. Our goal is to become a full-service school that is able to support our students AND their families.
Our “Meet the Teacher Night” was a huge success on August 11th. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We will be planning an Open House in the very near future that will allow you to see all the exciting things happening on our campus. Our theme this year is “Westside Excellence”. This theme recognizes the strong pride of our westside community and promotes the excellence that resides here.
Again, welcome to another fantastic school year at Rodriguez Elementary! I hope to see you regularly on our campus. Thank you for entrusting your precious child(ren) to us. We take that honor seriously and will do our very best to teach them well and keep them safe.
