Welcome back to another great year at Sam Houston HS. I am looking forward to this year and the fun challenges that we will have in 2017-2018. For those that do not know me, this is my 4th year at Sam Houston High School and 2nd year as the Social Studies Department Chair. I graduated from The University of West Florida with a BA in History and I have a Masters in Education from the UTSA. I have been teaching for 10 years and I am certified to teach 8-12 all social studies courses and EC-6 core subjects.
I am married with two beautiful daughters, Katie (12) and Emma (8). I was born in Alabama, (WAR EAGLE), where I lived until I was 12 until we started moving around for my dad's job. I am also mostly Irish so I tend to be stubborn at times. My students will agree with that statement completely.
This year I will be teaching World History, AP World History, and AP Psychology. My expectations for students is high but I work with every student to enhance their academic growth. I practice Growth Mindset which is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, that it can change with your effort. Perfection is not my goal, individual student growth is my desire. I will push your student to discover, investigate, question, analyze, make connections, and to become independent thinkers.
