Schedule: On campus most every morning starting on August 17, 2020. By 1 p.m., I am usually finished with tennis work, and heading home unless practice is scheduled.
Bio--I learned tennis at the ripe old age of 5, living in Corpus Christi. I really enjoyed the game and had fun with it. Throughout my life, and my school career, I have played off and on. I have been coaching tennis since beginning my tenure here at SAISD at S.J. Davis Middle School, and later, at Burbank High School. I came to Burbank during the school year 2011, teaching English and coaching Varsity Tennis. My teaching position changed, and finally I taught my last teaching year at Burbank teaching ESL classes to all grades 9,10,11, and 12. I retired from teaching in May, 2018, and came back the same year, only Coaching Tennis as a part-timer Head Tennis Coach.
Being Head Tennis Coach here at Burbank has really been a great time for me. I have had great success here with these athletes, and enjoy what I do immensely. We, from Burbank, have sent at least 1 player into the District Champion status every year for the last 6 years. The last two years, it has been a Varsity Girls Singles player, Val Cavazos. And in the last State Final occurence, in 2018, Val placed 2nd in 5A Girls Singles Tennis in the state of Texas. This was the first time since 1965 a tennis player from SAISD has placed in State Finals.
Our team this year looks good. We have 6 seniors and a great group of younger players ready to "throw down the gauntlet" continuing as winners in our district and further. I am looking forward to this year, notwithstanding the pandemic, and planning on a great year in Burbank Tennis.
Important Tennis information: As of this moment on August 21, 2020, there will be no in-person practice allowed until at least September 13, 2020. I will advise all players ahead of time if changes occur.
