Dear Parent/Guardian,

This year, your child will be using Lexia PowerUp Literacy™, a computer-based program that tailors instruction to your child’s specific needs. The activities in PowerUp support and build on our English language arts classroom curriculum, focusing on developing skills in three areas essential to becoming a proficient reader: Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension.

Here’s how PowerUp works:

• Your child’s first PowerUp session begins with a placement activity that determines the starting point based on their needs. Then, your child works on online activities throughout the week.
• Your child will aim to meet a weekly online usage target of 85-145 minutes. This weekly target

  will decrease over time as your child makes progress. You can see this weekly target on your child’s PowerUp student dashboard. Encourage your child to meet or beat the weekly usage target!

• Your child will be rewarded for consistent, strong work by earning streaks and “powering up” over skills they already know. Ask your child about their highest streak and what they’ve learned.
• Teachers will provide help when needed based on student progress and performance.
• Your child will also receive PowerUp paper-and-pencil activities for practice which may be done in school or at home.

PowerUp can be used at home!

Please encourage home use to help your child meet their weekly usage target. Getting started is easy!

1. Using a desktop or laptop computer, go to www.lexiapowerup.com. Please use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. Internet Explorer is not supported. Mobile devices are not supported.
2. The first time your child uses PowerUp at home, they will need to enter their teacher’s email on the setup screen. Your child can then log in with the username and password they use at school.

Username & Password:  THE STUDENT HAS BEEN GIVEN THIS INFORMATION, BUT YOU CAN REQUEST THE INFORMAION IF YOU NEED TO AT ANY TIME.

Please don’t provide your child with extra help while using PowerUp at home. This way, teachers can see when help is needed and provide additional instruction at school.
