My name is Lisa Avila. I feel so grateful that this is my 3rd year as a Dyslexia Program Specialist. This is my first year at Schenck Elementary and I'm very excited to be part of such an excellent team of teachers. In the past, I've had wonderful teaching and learning experiences with Lamar Elementary in SAISD for 6 years,  Alamo Heights ISD for 12 years and Comal ISD for 3 years prior to that. I've taught a range of grade levels and subjects - Reading Recovery, first grade, special education, 2nd grade, kindergarten and 6th and 7th grade Reading. I'm so excited to be part of this Schenck family and have the privilege of teaching your children. 

I am a graduate of Texas A & M University (Whoop!) and Lamar University. I have 3 children - 2 daughters (both of whom are teachers) and a son. I have a lovely 2-year old granddaughter, who is the light of my life! My husband, Art is an artist and educational publisher. We have 4 dogs and 3 cats as part of our family, too!
