Feb. 24, 2022 – Texas weather can hit one extreme to the other in just one day. No matter what the temperature is (from too cold to too hot), construction students at Sam Houston High School have the comfort of pets covered. The students have built five doghouses to protect furr-babies that like to be outside. Through March 23, SAISD Foundation is hosting an online auction to find these doghouses the perfect home.High school students framed the doghouses with the same building codes as home construction. The project gave students hands-on experience in residential home construction. Proceeds from the sale of the doghouses will be used to purchase building materials to give students additional construction experience.
Each doghouse is 4 ft. wide by 4 ft. deep by 5 ft. tall, with a door opening of 1 ft. wide by 2 ft. tall. The roof construction is made with estate gray architectural shingles and the outside is painted with exterior latex paint.
The starting bid for each doghouse is $150, and additional bids will be accepted in $50 increments. The online auction is available for the next 30 days. Interested pet owners may place bids at bit.ly/SHHS_Auction.
