San Antonio ISD filmmakers earned 11 different recognitions for their submissions to this year’s 90-Second Newbery competition, including four of the top six Best Picture awards.

The annual competition challenges students to adapt a John Newbery Medal-winning piece of literature into a film of about 90 seconds. Students worked alone or in groups to create their adaptations, which could be live-action human acting, stop motion, or any other way of dramatizing the storyline.

At a film festival April 22 provided in partnership with Bibliotech, the Hidalgo Foundation, and H-E-B, the winning films were shared at a film festival at the Tobin and awards issued. The top three best picture award winners in both elementary and secondary received checks from H-E-B to support the school’s filmmaking programs.

Here is a listing of all the awards San Antonio ISD schools received and links to their movie entries. Congratulations to all our young filmmakers.
