Dec. 13 (Sat) – SAISD JROTC cadets gifted new shoes at Project Shoes event

The American Legion Fred Brock Post 828 and WSS Shoes will be teaming up give San Antonio students new shoes for Christmas. Thirty SAISD JROTC cadets from Sam Houston High School, Brackenridge High School and Highlands High School will get to pick out a new pair of shoes for up to $100 in value.
Dec. 13 (Sat) – SAISD schools compete at La Gran Tamalada
10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Market Square, 514 W. Commerce St., 78207
For the first time in its 12-year history, the annual “La Gran Tamalada” event will feature high school students competing to showcase their tamal making skills. The free holiday event at Market Square celebrates San Antonio Hispanic culture. Seven local high schools will be chasing the honor of being named the best tamaleros of the future. Lanier High School and Brackenridge High School culinary arts students will be among that group out to claim the tamal-making crown.

Dec. 16 (Tues) – Highlands High School Fine Arts Showcase
5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave., 78210
Highlands High School hosts a collaborative, annual showcase for all the Fine Arts of the school to present together. Visual Arts, band, mariachi, choir, orchestra, dance, and theatre all present their students' work to accentuate the holiday spirit.
Dec. 18 (Thurs) – Bond 2020 Community Updates

The SAISD Bond Team is hosting their Bond 2020 Community Update sessions virtually. The sessions will be an opportunity for the community to receive the latest updates regarding Bond 2020 projects and to have their questions answered by the Bond Team.
Dec. 18 (Thurs) – Central Office Gift Delivery to Herff Elementary
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Herff Elementary School, 996 Hackberry St., 78210
The SAISD Central Office staff sponsored a “Give Back Tree” to provide Christmas gifts for 75 students at Herff Elementary. SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino will join staff members as the gifts are delivered with holiday fanfare to Herff Elementary. Central Office staff, or “Christmas elves,” will wrap all the gifts on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 11 a.m. to noon at Central Office, 514 W. Quincy St., 78212.
Dec. 19 (Fri) – J.T. Brackenridge Elementary Christmas Toy Drive distribution
9 a.m. to noon, J.T. Brackenridge Elementary School, 1214 Guadalupe St., 78207
J.T. Brackenridge Elementary is sponsoring 245 students for the holidays. Each child receives an item they need, such as shoes, underwear, or a jacket, along with a toy. The campus received support from local businesses who also sponsored families. Teachers and the community also contributed to the effort.
Dec. 19, 2025 – Jan. 2, 2026 – SAISD Closed for Winter Break
All SAISD offices and campuses will be closed from Friday, Dec. 19, 2025 through Friday, January 2, 2025 for the Winter Break holiday. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026. Students return to class on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
