The Construction programs at Lanier, Sam Houston, and Jefferson high schools are working with the San Antonio chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a volunteer organization with a mission to provide twin beds and bedding to children. The collaboration involves three components:
• Twin bed construction and donation events;
• Twin “Bed in a Bag” bedding set drive; and
• Applications from SAISD families for a total of 100 donated beds.
Interested individuals may participate in the project by contributing a “Bed in a Bag” twin set, which includes a comforter and sheets. The project goal is to collect enough “Bed in a Bag” sets for each of the 100 twin beds.
The bedding is being collected at the following donation sites from now until March 5, 2026 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday - Friday:
• SAISD Central Office lobby, 514 W. Quincy St., 78215
• Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St., 78220
• Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd., 78207
• Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave., 78201
Families in need of beds for their children may apply for consideration through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization at https://shpbeds.org/apply/.
