SAISD SPOTLIGHT: SAISD Police Department uniform change in support of National Autism Awareness Month
The San Antonio ISD Police Department will recognize National Autism Awareness Month in April department-wide initiative. Starting March 29 and continuing through May 2, SAISD officers will be authorized to wear modified police patches featuring the symbolic ribbon of neurodiversity.
The initiative aims to foster a deeper connection between law enforcement and the diverse student population they serve. By integrating this symbol into the official uniform, the department seeks to promote visibility, acceptance, and a sense of belonging for neurodivergent students and their families.
"Our officers are more than just protectors; they are mentors and community pillars," said SAISD Police Chief Johnny Reyes, Jr. "By wearing these patches, we are sending a clear message to our students and families that we see them, we support them, and we are committed to an inclusive environment where every individual feels safe and understood."
Schedule a time to visit with SAISD Police Chief Johnny Reyes, Jr. to see the uniform modifications and to learn more about the department continuing to implement community-oriented initiatives.
