District and H-E-B representatives surprised three district teachers this week with the news that they are finalists in the statewide H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.
“At H-E-B, we are proud to recognize the educators who uplift their communities, ignite a passion for learning and show the difference one dedicated individual can make in the lives of students across the state,” Winell Herron, H-E-B Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs, said in a press release. “These finalists reflect the spirit, strength and resiliency that define Texas.”
Oscar Garcia from CAST Med High School, Silvia Corado from Graebner Elementary, and Grecia Aguilera from Madison Elementary, are now among the 48 teacher finalists around the state competing for six teacher awards in May.
H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards recognize six teachers across the state of Texas in three categories — one each in elementary and secondary for The Rising Star Award (10 years teaching experience or less), The Leadership Award (10-20 years experience), and The Lifetime Achievement award (more than 20 years experience).
Aguilera is a finalist in the Rising Star Category, Garcia is a finalist in the Leadership Category, and Corado is a finalist in the Lifetime Achievement category.
As part of the honor, each finalist received a check for $1,000 for themselves and another $1,000 for their schools.
Winners will be announced at a gala in Houston on May 3.
Tres maestros de SAISD nombrados finalistas para los Premios H-E-B a la Excelencia en Educación
Representantes del distrito y H-E-B sorprendieron a tres maestros del distrito esta semana con la noticia de que son finalistas de los Premios H-E-B a la Excelencia en Educación, otorgados a nivel estatal.
“En H-E-B, estamos orgullosos de reconocer a los educadores que elevan sus comunidades, encienden la pasión por el aprendizaje y muestran la diferencia que una persona dedicada puede hacer en las vidas de los estudiantes en todo el estado”, dijo Winell Herron, vicepresidenta ejecutiva de Asuntos Públicos, Diversidad y Asuntos Ambientales de H-E-B, en un comunicado de prensa. “Estos finalistas reflejan el espíritu, la fuerza y la resiliencia que definen a Texas”.
