San Antonio ISD hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at Burbank High School to celebrate the beginning of its Bond 2020-funded upgrades to the campus on January 13th. The ceremony featured special guests such as Senator José Menéndez, Councilwoman Teri Castillo, Jasmine Rodriguez, Director of Outreach for the Office of Joaquin Castro, and SAISD Board Trustee Arthur Valdez. Burbank’s principal Irene Talamantes served as the MC for the event, which featured speeches from:

The ceremony also included participation from the Burbank choir, ROTC, band, cheer, and athletic teams. After the ceremony, guests were invited to sign the original bulldog emblems that resided on the gymnasium which will be incorporated into the new gym’s design.
This ceremony marked the start of Bond 2020 commitments to Burbank High School, part of a larger districtwide effort to modernize and improve SAISD facilities. These investments create enriched academic and extracurricular environments that promote student growth and community pride.
Burbank High School first opened its doors in 1937 and currently serves nearly 1400 students.
Major highlights of the planned work include:
New gymnasium complete with a mat/weight room, laundry room, and offices for the coaches;
And new interior and exterior security cameras
