San Antonio ISD hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Lanier High School to celebrate the completion of its Bond 2020-funded upgrades to the campus on February 18th. Lanier’s principal Dr. Rick Flores served as the MC for the event, which featured speeches from:
Trustee Stephanie Torres, SAISD’s Single Member District 5’s Board Representative
Prisma Garcia, Lanier Student Ambassador
Yvonne Little, SAISD’s Senior Executive Director of Capital Development and Construction Services
Federico Cavazos, LPA Principal Design Director
Dan Byrom, Vice President of Joeris San Antonio
The ceremony included performances from the Lanier dance team, ballet folklorico, and mariachi with additional participation from the cheer, men of honor, law enforcement, and ROTC programs.
.This ceremony marked the completion of Bond 2020 commitments to Lanier High School, part of a larger districtwide effort to modernize and improve SAISD facilities. These investments create enriched academic and extracurricular environments that promote student growth and community pride.
Lanier first opened in its present location in 1975. The school believes in strongly supporting their students with rigorous and engaging learning.
Major highlights of the planned work include:
Renovated library with study spaces;
Renovated auditorium complete with new seating, lighting, and sound system;
Renovated Alumni Center including concession stand and restroom upgrades; and
A new central HVAC plant
Lanier’s design contractor, LPA Design Studios, recently received the Caudill Award, the highest distinction in Texas school design, for their work on the Bond 2016 Lanier project. The designs were praised for their incorporation of natural lighting, flexible learning spaces, and the incorporation of cultural murals.
