San Antonio ISD hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Brackenridge High School to celebrate the completion of its Bond 2020-funded upgrades to the campus on Aug. 21. Brackenridge’s head coach Steve Garcia served as the emcee for the event, which featured speeches from:  

• Trustee Dr. Mike Villarreal, SAISD Single Member District 1’s Board Representative 

• Dr. Adrian Bustillos, SAISD Superintendent 

• Mandie Suarez, Brackenridge High School Principal 

• Angie Martinez, Brackenridge Student Ambassador  

The ceremony included performances from the Brackenridge Mariachi Aguila, dance team, and band with additional participation from the cheer and ROTC programs.  

This ceremony marked the completion of Bond 2020 commitments to Brackenridge High School, part of a larger districtwide effort to modernize and improve SAISD facilities. These investments create enriched academic and extracurricular environments that promote student growth and community pride.  

G.W. Brackenridge High School was first established in 1917 and recently received major renovations to its academic space thanks to the 2016 Bond. The school is dedicated to graduating all students as empowered, community-minded, college-ready students who think innovatively, reason logically, and contribute as 21st Century globally-competent citizens.  

Major highlights of the work include:  

• New competition gym 

• New dance studio 

• Renovate existing competition gym to a secondary gym 

• Major interior renovations to athletic facilities 

• Add new canopy connecting the gyms 

• Complete HVAC upgrades 

• Improve baseball and softball fields  

The school has earned an A rating and two distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency for the 2025-26 school year.
