Hello, and welcome to Seventh grade Math.
My name is DeAnna Callagin. This is my 9th year in SAISD and at Harris Middle School. I am serving my 5th year as a Master Teacher (now called Teacher leader). I love math because everything that exists... is math. I am an assistant Coach for the Harris track team, specializing in work with sprinters and relay runners.
I am originally from San Antonio, TX. I graduated from Prairie View A & M University with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in Mathematics.
I am obsessed with Starbucks. I am passionate about helping students learn and grow. Middle school is such a fun and sometimes awkward phase for many kids, it makes my day-to-day experience always full of excitement. I love to laugh, joke, and teach students to embrace their strengths in Math. Life is all about balance - and in my class balance of laughs and learning is a must.
I acknowledge that many students "hate" math because they don't understand the math. I love taking time with students to demonstrate the many ways to solve problems. With a little patience, love, and extra attention all students are capable to grow and learn to love and find the value of math.
