About Me:
Sergio De Leon is an experienced mariachi/Latin music performer, multi-instrumentalist, vocal Tenor, with over 15 years of combined experience in professional performance, private instruction and as a mariachi director at the public school secondary level. He earned a Master's degree in Latin Music Studies with a specialization in Voice Performance at Texas State University. During his graduate studies, he performed with the universities award winning mariachi group, conducted and rehearsed both mariachi ensembles, and assisted the director with arranging scores.
Throughout his career as a director he established a mariachi program at Jim Barnes Middle School at Seguin ISD, which included beginner and intermediate levels with students earning the highest honor of 1st Division and Sweepstakes multiple times. In his first year teaching, he earned a Teacher of the Year recognition.
Last year, students earned the highest achievement of 1st Division and sweepstakes in UIL, five students advanced to Region, a Violin student advanced to Region and State Orchestra, Varsity advanced to the State UIL competition where students earned recognition (Voice and Guitarron), earned 1st division at TMDA, and earned 3rd place in the Robstown Cotton Picker Festival.
Mr. De Leon is very passionate about music education and enjoys teaching methods, techniques, genres, and styles in all mariachi instrumentation, including voice, violin, trumpet, vihuela, guitar, and guitarron. He is dedicated to fostering the performance and study of Latin music genres in a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
