Welcome to IB Environmental Systems! Everything we do, from drinking a cup of coffee to driving our cars, has an environmental impact. This course will take an in-depth look at how you as a citizen of planet earth have rights and responsibilities to the world resources. It is my hope that you leave this class a changed person. We will use scientific principles to understand the interrelations of the natural world and the impact of humans on natural systems. We will evaluate the risks and economic realities associated with environmental problems while working towards analysis of potential solutions.

This is an IB (International Baccalaureate) course and will require that you are a dedicated learner.  The end of course assessments are comprehensive and rigorous. As such, the course will rely heavily on activities and field studies to illustrate the general topics of the course. You must take assignments seriously so, as a group, we can discuss the many topics.  Articles, notes, and reminders will be posted in CANVAS and on-line assignments will be submitted regularly.  You will be required to keep a current events notebook of environmental issues.

Environmental Systems Syllabus

Welcome to Pre-IB Biology!  This Pre-IB course will allow students to better understand their relationship to the “living world” around them. This course covers the important aspects of biology related to a variety of topics that include: the characteristics of living things; structures and functions of cells and viruses; growth and development of organisms: cells, tissues, and organs; nucleic acids and genetics: biological evolution; taxonomy; metabolism and energy transfers in living organisms; living systems; homeostasis; ecosystems; and plants, animals and the environment. While studying each of the various topics, students will have a specific approach to the subject in laboratory experiments. Pre-IB students will be practicing skills to develop international mindedness, cultural understanding, and impact the world around them in a positive way by acquiring the characteristics of the IB Learner profile.
