Briscoe Parents and Partners of our growing young Bears,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am ecstatic to be returning to Briscoe Elementary School as principal of such a magnificent group of students, parents, teachers and community. I am certain that this year will be even better than last, and I look forward to continuing this partnership with the Briscoe Family.
This is an innovative time for Briscoe as we enter our candidacy phase of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Our teachers are enthusiastic to provide stimulating learning opportunities and inquiry based learning experiences to engage and enrich students’ lives. Our scholars will be experiencing education in a fresh and renewed way that you may not be accustomed to, so please talk to your child about their about their learning experiences, inquire with our teachers if you have questions and be an active participant this year during our growth and learning.
Our main focus this year will be to have every child reading on grade level. We will ask for your assistance with this by providing opportunities for reading at home, encouraging them to read daily, discussing what they have read, checking out books from the local library and modeling reading for them at home. All of our students will benefit from seeing and hearing their parents and families read and interact with books. Another area of emphasis this year will be setting student goals and learning how to tract their own progress. Together, teachers, parents and students will celebrate as we reach our individual, class and campus goals. Lastly, when students attend school regularly and on time it increases their learning substantially. We are asking you to assist us in making sure your child is on time to school, is in class every day, and limit their absences. Together, I am certain we reach these three goals.
I’d like to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jennifer Emerson, to the campus. Please feel free to reach out to either of us if you have questions, concerns or celebrations. Our campus theme this year is “Exploring the World through Learning!”, so let the adventure and journey begin!
