Welcome back Briscoe Bears! 2018-2019 is going to be a revolutionary year as we serge forward with student learning and experiences.
What makes Briscoe Elementary unique?
We are in the Candidacy Phase of the International Baccalaureate Programme. Through this process our students are becoming internationally minded through self-awareness and service learning projects, research, and reflection. Once our campus is authorized we will complete the Burbank/Harris IB World School strand for SAISD.
Our multiple programs, such as, Dual Language, Bilingual classes, Art, Music, Spanish, and Gifted and Talented, provide many opportunities for students to participate in not only during the school day, as well as additional extra-curricular activities for students. These include: Art Club, Choir, iPlay, UIL, and Crochet.
Last year we piloted the SAISD Supper Program. Starting this school year, all of our Bears will receive three free meals a day: Breakfast in the Classrooms, Lunch and Supper. In order to reduce waste, non-perishable foods will be placed on sharing tables. Students are able to take home items from the sharing table.
We have phenomenal community partnerships with SMART, SAMA, First Baptist Church (Briscoe Buddies), Hill Country Bakery, Boys & Girls Club, The McNay, Blue Star Contemporary, St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Little Ceasar’s, TexaStar Bank, Lowe’s and Community in Schools. Our students and staff are grateful for their generosity and support.
Many of our parents and grandparents attended Briscoe as children. We have a rich history of family, tradition, and pride. Parental engagement and support is one major key to student success. We value parent and guardian communication and commitment.
We offer many family events throughout the year, such as student-led parent conferences, Pop-Up Museum, IB Nights, Choir performances, SMART exhibitions, and grade level events. We will be having several service learning projects throughout the year that encourage learners to become aware of community needs and opportunities for caring.
Briscoe also has the largest after-school program, Challenge, providing K-5th grade students various activities and experiences to ensure parents have care until 6:00pm. Each year the Briscoe iPlay team takes the lead for elementary schools in all competitions. Our students earned the coveted End of Year Award last year!
We look forward to our partnerships with parents and families. Please know that we value your support and engagement. Feel free to contact me with celebrations, suggestion and solutions. Our campus theme this year is “Be the Change!” I encourage you and your children to embrace this concept. We will explore who we are, where we come from and how we can impact our school and community.
