Dear Schenck Families,
I am so excited to be a part of the Kate Schenck family.  At Schenck the vision for our students is Equity and Excellence for all students.  We are committed to creating a safe, welcoming and positive environment were students can grow to be the best that they can be.
This year's theme is "Leading the Way". Our goal is to empower students to become leaders.  Students will be taught Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids.  The seven habits are: (1)be proactive, (2) begin with the end in mind, (3) put first things first, (4)think win-win, (5) seek first to understand, then to be understood, (6)synergy, and (7) sharpen the saw.  These are life skills that will help them to be leaders for life.
This year Schenck Elementary is a dual language/bilingual campus.  Students in Pre-kinder, Kinder, and First grade may enroll in the dual classes.  SAISD follows an 80/20 model.  Students in PreK and Kinder are taught 80% of the day in Spanish and 20% in English. First grade students have 70% of their day in Spanish and 30% in English. Each year the Spanish decreases and the English increases until students are at a 50% Spanish, 50% English by third grade and beyond. We are very excited about developing bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultured student citizens.
Together we will empower Schenck students to be leaders not just at school but in society.  Thank you for your support.
