Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What grade levels are holding lotteries?

A lottery will be conducted for PK4 and 6th grade.

  1. What is the process to apply for the non-lottery grade levels at ALA?

The names of prospective 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th grade students may be added to existing waitlists at any time by completing the application online at https://saisdenroll.schoolmint.net/welcomeback or requesting a paper application from the office at ALA.

  1. Is it a first-come, first-serve system to get into ALA?

No. If there are less applications than seats available, no lottery is conducted and all students are accepted.  If there are more applications than available seats, a lottery is conducted, offers are made for the number of seats available and the remaining students are waitlisted.

The Lottery Process-  This is a blind, computerized process conducted at the district level.  At ALA, we have a lottery for PreK 4 (66 seats) and 6th grade (22 seats).  Below is the distribution of the seats for each lottery.

  1. Priority Area (25%)- within 2 miles of ALA Fox Tech campus.  If a student is not accepted through this lottery, his/her name is automatically included in the appropriate In-District lottery below

  2. In District/ Economically Disadvantaged (25%)

  3. In District/ Non Economically Disadvantaged (25%)

  4. Out of district (25%)

  1. Do siblings have priority?

Siblings have priority in grades that have a lottery.  At ALA, lottery grades are PK4 and 6th grade. The number of seats for siblings cannot exceed 25% of the available seats.  Out of our available 88 PreK and 6th grade seats, siblings could take 22. Siblings not admitted through the sibling lottery are placed in the general lottery.

If you would like to be considered for sibling priority, an application must be completed online, the currently enrolled sibling information must be stated on the application and continue enrollment at ALA for the  2019-2020 school year.

Siblings only have priority during lottery years.  The names of siblings who apply to any other grade level will be added to the waitlist.

  1. What happens to the application if my son or daughter does not get accepted?

If your son or daughter does not get accepted through the lottery process, they are placed on a waitlist.  That waitlist carries over until they receive an offer or the waitlist reaches a lottery grade, which would be 6th grade.  Applications do not roll over after 8th grade either. During these times, a new application will need to be submitted for your son or daughter.
