Balanced Literacy is the program we will be using this year to teach Reading. It is a 95 minute program where students start with a whole class read aloud, a mini phonics lesson, and then rotate between stations in leveled reading groups.
Students will do two station rotations daily. One of the rotations will be guided reading with the teacher twice per week. The independent Balanced Literacy stations include: word work, independent/buddy reading, the writing station, and a technology/listening station.
Here is our Balanced Literacy schedule:
30 Minutes: Whole class read aloud
15 Minutes: Phonics lesson
25 Minutes: 1st rotation
25 Minutes: 2nd rotation
