It's Hurricane Season! Welcome to another School Year at Sam Houston High School.
Background: My name Phillip Jimenez. I grew up here in San Antonio, TX. I graduated from Burbank High School in 1989. I then attended Southwest Texas State University, (now Texas State University) where I earned a B.F.A. in Acting and Directing in 1996. I am excited to begin my 9th year Teaching for SAISD. Other than being a Teacher and a Coach at Sam Houston, I am a Son, Uncle, Brother, Friend, Student and Explorer.
Work History: I've gotten paid for Wire Pulling, Installing Phone Systems, Welding, Carpentry, Mowing Lawns, Building Super Wal-Marts, Cooking, Acting, Singing, and More... However, I've actually had careers in the following areas. Concert/Theatre Production, Stage Management, Adolescent Mentoring, and Teaching.
My hope for my students is that my classroom is a a safe and nurturing environment in all areas of their development and growth. I focus on providing a class room where students feel safe to share their thoughts, make mistakes, and push their inner selves to progress into their adult lives. My classroom is inclusive not exclusive. Respect, Community, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Caring, and Citizenship are the main pillars being addressed in Coach Phil's class.
Welcome to Room 508
Lets Do This!
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!
