About Us
Welcome to Travis Early College High School, a tuition-free school located within the San Antonio Independent School District that leads students on the fast-track to college. Travis ECHS is the right place for students who are goal-oriented and seek a college education in the future.
Travis students become college students starting in their freshman year of high school, and begin taking basics at neighboring San Antonio College (SAC), our program partner. During four years, students take rigorous courses that earn them a high school diploma and up to two years of college credit. This approach saves students and their families a significant amount of money – and it gives students valuable exposure to campus life, making for a smoother transition between high school and higher education.
Any student in Bexar County who meets the admission criteria may apply to attend Travis.
Travis ECHS seeks to educate students with diverse academic backgrounds, not just those who were at the top of their middle school classes. We believe that hard work and determination, combined with a strong support network provided by the school, lead to student success. The fact that our school has been rated Exemplary by the Texas Education Agency each year since the agency began rating Travis ECH is a testament to our program and our students’ success.
Our History
Travis Early College High School (ECHS) opened in 2008-2009, with its inaugural class of 9th-grade students. An additional cohort of ninth-graders was added each year, and the school's first class of seniors graduated in spring 2012. Many students earned an associate degree, with an average of 42 earned college credits. That’s well over a full year of college credit.
Travis ECHS provides students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college-credit hours or an associate degree and to do so in an academically supportive environment, at no cost to the parent or student. Students also have the opportunity to earn a Distinguished Achievement Program diploma. In addition, Travis provides opportunities for students to make a seamless transition between high school and a two-year college, culminating in entry and completion of a four-year degree program at a college or university.
The Class of 2016 exemplifies the high expectations set for students of Travis ECHS. Approximately 78% of those students obtained their Associate's Degree from San Antonio College and together they earned $6.6 million in scholarships to colleges and universities.
