Principal Information
Ashlyn P. Barrientes
Greetings,
My name is Ashlyn Barrientes, proud Principal of St. Philip’s College Early College High School. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan to an educator and engineer my parents stressed the importance of education. Making good grades and attending college was never a choice but an expectation. For that I am grateful. My journey through grade school and high school was one in which I cherish very fond memories. The great teachers and enriching activities helped shape me into the educator I am today.
I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies Education, from Kentucky State University and a Master of Education in School Administration from Cambridge College. Currently, I hold educator certifications in the states of Texas, Kentucky, and Washington DC. These certifications are in Principal EC-12; History 8-12; and Special Education Supplement 8-12. My experience extends over a period of 22 years, with 13 years of direct teaching and 9 years in administration.
Serving with San Antonio Independent School district has afforded me the opportunity to grow and develop as a leader. Two accomplishments I am most proud of as a San Antonio ISD employee include, developing the first P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) in Bexar County at Sam Houston HS, Cyber P-TECH USA, and being the Principal at St. Philip’s College Early College High School. Being able to support the growth and development of students on the Eastside of San Antonio is an honor.
My vision for school leadership includes a collaborative clear mission/vision and goals that is based on school data. A staff professional development plan that focuses on best practices for instruction. Additionally, my vision includes the establishment of a strong campus culture that embodies teamwork, safety, equity, respect, and integrity.
I have been blessed with a wonderful husband Joe, who is also an educator. Joe and I have recently taken on the role of “empty nesters,” now that all 6 of our children are out of the house. Three of our children are graduates from Sam Houston HS. and Brackenridge HS. Although our children are adults, we gather often for trips to the lake, traveling, and family game night.
I am thrilled to be serving the St. Philip’s College ECHS community and staff. My door is always open, so please feel free to stop by to say hello, ask questions, or express concerns. Go Tigers!
Sincerely,
Ashlyn Barrientes
