Making History: San Antonio's First

Public, All-Girls Elementary School

Inspired by SAISD's Young Women's Leadership Academy, a 6th-12th grade, all-girls, National Blue Ribbon School, the Young Women's Leadership Academy: Primary (YWLA Primary) is San Antonio's first public, tuition-free, all-girls elementary school.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower young girls to find their voices and passions and to achieve extraordinary outcomes by providing them with a powerful single-gender experience.

The mission of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN) and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy is to support single-sex, college preparatory, public education in Texas that will give young women in urban schools the academic skills to achieve success in college and life by thinking critically, leading purposefully, and living active, healthy and responsible lives.

Our Core Values

In order to achieve our goals and attain our commitments, we expect the following SAISD core values to guide the behavior of all employees: Student Centered, High Expectations, Commitment, Passion, Integrity, Respect, and Teamwork.

The core values of the Young Women’s Leadership Academy Network are:
o College Preparation
o Leadership
o Health and Wellness

With special focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics), social-emotional learning, and early college preparation, YWLA Primary provides young girls the opportunity to explore their interests in a challenging, engaging, warm, and safe environment.

Blue Jay Daily Pledge

I will always remember to Dream Big,
To Believe in Myself,
To Enjoy Learning and Laughing,
That I am Beautiful Inside and Out,
And that I am FEARLESS.

The Young Women's Leadership Academy: Primary opened its doors in August of 2019, welcoming its first class of kindergarten and first grade students. Each year hereafter, YWLA Primary will phase in one grade level per year, becoming a full K-5 program by 2023. Applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now closed; however, our applications for the 2021-22 school year will open in November 2020.

The team at YWLA Primary is proud to call the historic former Page Middle School site home. The original campus was built in 1926. Page Middle School phased out its program in June 2019.

In preparation for the growth of YWLA Primary, the campus will undergo continual renovations each year to ensure its accessibility for elementary students.
