Greetings. This is my eleventh year at Whittier! This year, I am teaching 7th grade ELA and 8th grade ELA. I am also producing our first ever student newscast called "Hawks Voice". In my language arts classes, a common theme is how literacy has been used throughout history to bring about social change. In the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to travel to Indonesia with Teachers for Global Classrooms. This transformative experience opened my eyes to the challenges facing young people around the world. For instruction, my goals are to focus on global issues, expose our students to diverse authors and opinions, use technology to connect students around the world, and encourage our students to advocate for themselves and their community.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from St. Mary’s University (2005) and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from UTSA (2016). I am a proud graduate of the Urban School Leaders Collaborative at UTSA.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading George RR Martin novels, traveling to historical sites in and around Texas, and visiting my favorite thrift stores.
Every year, I look forward to meeting my new students and reading their poems and short stories. Reading and writing can take away your stress and sharing your work can make others feel better. I firmly believe that the world would be a better place if we all read and wrote more!
