I welcome you to Sidney Lanier High School! The school started in 1915 as McKinley Elementary, was renamed Sidney Lanier Junior High School in 1923, and designated asa Sidney Lanier Junior Senior High School in 1929. Our school has been graduating students for almost 100 years who have gone on to make a difference in the Westside community, in San Antonio, and in the state, nation, and world. We are proud of our community roots and history and our pride is the foundation of our traditions, norms, and expectations. A theme for this year is that everything we do will be a matter of PRIDE. I want you, your children, all of our staff members, and our community to be proud of the great things that are happening here at Sidney Lanier High School.
At Sidney Lanier High School, we will show students how much we care for them through the relationships we form with them and by our expectations of them. We expect our students to take rigorous courses. We expect them to respect one another. We expect parents to be equal partners in their children’s learning. We expect our students to do their best!
We are a large high school, but it is my goal to give families the personal attention you deserve. Our doors are always open for you to come in and visit your child. It is very important for you to know what your child is learning. It is my hope that you will frequently visit the Parent Portal to keep abreast of your child’s assignments and grades.
Our Back to School Night will be on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 with opportunities to meet your child's teachers from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a community resource fair in the mall area from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Sidney Lanier High School students wear uniforms during the regular school day consisting of black or khaki slacks or bottoms with a white, royal blue, or silver grey collared shirt. Students are welcome to wear Lanier spirit shirts any day and are permitted to wear jeans on Friday’s only. Sweatshirts or sweaters without zippers or full buttons must also conform to the white, royal blue, or silver grey restriction. Logos and words/writing/images are not permitted on shirts, with the exception of the spirit shirts. Please refer to the S.A.I.S.D. Parent Handbook for more detailed information regarding the dress code policy.
I hope you find this website useful as we continue to improve our ability to communicate with you. I will update this site monthly with upcoming events and reports. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Agusut 16th at Back to School Night. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 210-978-7910 or stop by the school. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve you, your children, and the Lanier community.
