Ms. Janie is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and raised within the SAISD boundaries. Her second home is Tucson, Arizona, where she obtained school counselor experience in one of the largest school districts in Southern Arizona and Arizona's 2nd largest public-school system. In addition, she gained Montessori experience working as a school counselor for a Montessori Academy. She has a strong background as a clinician working with minor refugees following guidelines of the U. S. Department of Health & Human Services and Homeland Security. This is her 9th year at a school and her second year at Steele Montessori.
Her passion is working with students and families to help meet their academic, social, and emotional needs. She is highly dedicated and passionate about sustaining and soliciting partnerships and sponsorships, as well as bringing attention to community organizations and their services to benefit her community. As a school counselor, her personal mission is to help students achieve academic and personal excellence, build strong school and community relationships, and to be kind and responsible members of their community.
Ms. Janie graduated from St. Mary’s University with a B.A. in Social Sciences and Humanities and an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, while also obtaining her School Counselor Certification at the University of Arizona.
Additionally, she is a mother of three children and a nana to a tenacious granddaughter. Her favorite pastimes are watching movies, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
