When a student walks through the doors of Highlands High School, they enter a community that blends 60 years of tradition and pride with a new $65 million facility including a state of the art auditorium, beautiful courtyard, and modern classrooms.
Highlands offers a multitude of extracurricular programs to ensure that each student finds a place to belong as they develop skills inside and outside of the classroom. Our Engineering Institute Magnet Program aims to inspire and prepare scholars in Engineering and Computer Science with enhanced curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities, and individualized support for success in STEM fields. Through unique partnerships with industry, Highlands provides students with professional mentors and activities that align with real world career skills, such as the Frost Bank Financial Youth Academy or the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program. At Highlands, our students find success in everything from AP Spanish, which boasts a 70%-90% passing rate on the rigorous AP exams, to art, where we have had two recent winners of the prestigious National Congressional Art Award. Our athletics program is top notch, earning 2017 District Championships in Football, Girls Soccer, Softball, and Baseball; our Brigade Dance Team has been designated Grand National Champions for both 2016 and 2017; and our Marching Band has placed Division 1 at UIL for the past 3 years.
Highlands High School is the pride of the Southeast side and the Mighty Owls welcome you to visit us and become part of our legacy.
